The Great Comet Of 1812 Launches On Broadway
Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 is coming to Broadway’s Imperial Theatre. Previews of the new musical begin on October 18; the official opening night will be November 14.
Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 offers Josh Groban his first chance to take the stage on Broadway.
Platinum recording artist Josh Groban will debut on Broadway in the new musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. Drawing its inspiration from a memorable vignette in Tolstoy’s War and Peace, this creative and vibrant new musical has drawn serious praise from both Entertainment Weekly and the New York Times. Audiences will thrill to the vivid story of two of literature’s most famous lovers caught up in a fiery splendor in 19th-century Moscow.
It’s true love, undeniable attraction, and dangerous liaisons aplenty in Moscow. Natasha is a beautiful and charming young woman who is affianced to the dashing Andrey. While he serves in the army defending Russia, though, the suave (and married) Anatole sets his sights on seduction. When the story gets out, Natasha faces social disgrace. Everything hangs on the unlikely Pierre (Groban), a society exile who carries a burning passion for Natasha himself. His love may be the one thing that puts her life back together.
According to Time Out New York, The Great Comet may well go down in history as one of the decade’s best musicals. The Daily News praises both its score and its stellar performances. The music draws from a multitude of sources, blending classic Broadway stylings with rock, soul, folk, pop, and electronica. The Great Comet has just completed a sold-out run in Boston, and its premiere Off-Broadway was a smashing success. The minds behind the show have transformed the Imperial Theatre into one of imperial Russia’s grandest salons, and every audience member will get a unique look at this ravishing romantic show.
